Question:
What is the inbetweenish?

inbetweenish was born in late 2021 to explore the complexities of belonging. It’s a podcast for those who grew up navigating multiple countries, cultures, ethnicities, and faiths—those who don’t fit neatly into boxes. It’s a safe space to discuss roots, home, belonging, and the challenges of living in-between.

Each episode features a conversation with a guest who has experienced this confusing, complex journey of growing up building bridges across different cultures.

Today inbetweenish is: a podcast, The QUEST. Newsletter, and a monthly virtual event called Stories Across Borders where strangers come together to discuss controversial cultural topics.

favorite episodes below:

Untranslatable Words
The Last Segment of the Show:

Most of the guests on the show are bilingual, if not polyglots, as a result of growing up across different cultures and code-switching between different languages. So, at the end of every episode I ask my guests to share an Untranslatable Word (or two) in their language of choice.

The design of these Untranslatable Words have changed over time. Evolution is welcome!

What is an Untranslatable Word in your mother tongue that you wish existed in the English language?

Cultural Mosaics, Visualizing the Cross-Cultural Kid model:
An inbetweenish Collaboration with Chameleon Coaching

In our day and age there are so many ways children can grow up navigating different cultures. Chances are you’ve probably heard of the term Third Culture Kids, but have you heard of the more inclusive term Cross-Cultural Kids?

In collaboration with Chameleon Coaching, we launched Cultural Mosaics an educational campaign aiming to raise awareness of the Cross-Cultural Kid (CCK) model as outlined by anthropologist/sociologist Ruth Van Reken.

I was in charge of developing the minimalistic visuals to carefully break down and explain each of the 12 CCK categories one by one, simplifying them into basic shapes. Cultural Mosaics was published on Instagram and across other social media platforms.

Here is a carousel we developed to visualize one of the CCK categories: children of immigrants. Every CCK category has a distinct visual representation, an easy definition, a micro moment encompassing the identity with the voice of one of the guests from the inbetweenish pod, and last but not least, reflective questions to ponder on.

On Palestine:
An inbetweenish Mini-Series

In January of 2024, I published On Palestine, a three-part mini-series on the inbetweenish pod that focused on amplifying diverse Palestinian voices. The series features three distinct Palestinian voices representing the Palestinians diaspora who grew up in both the Arab world and the West, alongside a Palestinian who grew up in the West Bank.

Each one of the guests shares a profoundly personal perspective and understanding of Palestine through their lived material experience, stories passed down through generations of displacement, and the infusion of Palestinian culture in their homes and upbringings.

Featured below are design elements I illustrated to complement the audio-series.
